Another House Update

Project HousePosted by Jan H. Oersnaes 2008-01-06 01:53PM

We went to Samar over Christmas and New Year. There I could inspect the progress of our "little" house project.

In the series of pictures below the outside of the house can be seen as it appears at the moment. I hope we will have the outside of the house painted by the end of January. The finishing of the perimeter wall will probably be the last thing we will do since this can be done while we live in the house.

The next 3 pictures below show the progress of the generator shelter where we will eventually have a small Diesel driven generator installed. Even though it is a bit expensive I have opted for getting a residential fully enclosed generator package which will be impossible to hear from the house (I love peace and quiet).

The inside of the house has now mostly been painted with primer so the walls are now ready to receive the final color coating that we have decided to use. I hope I can upload pictures of this sometime in February.

It still looks a bit messy but when the rooms have been painted, cleaned and some furniture have been installed then I will return with some uploads.

Casa Oersnaes

Project HousePosted by Jan H. Oersnaes 2007-11-02 11:41AM

The work on the house is slowly moving forward but it will take some time before the whole project is complete.

At the moment the terrace is moving towards completion and the generator house is under construction (this will just be a 4x4 meter open house with a roof and one wall facing the street). This means that we can soon start on painting the house inside and outside. The perimeter wall needs another 3 layers of blocks in some places and 5 layers in others. Then everything needs to be finished before priming and coating with paint (I dont want any gray concrete anywhere). We have postponed the generator for the moment so we can concentrate on getting the house painted so we can move in sometime in December so we can celebrate Christmas and New Year there.

Maybe calling it a terrace is slightly incorrect since it will eventually be fitted out as just another living room but it will be possible to sit there with mosquito netting over the windows enjoying the view over the rice fields next door.

More construction on the house!

Project HousePosted by Jan H. Oersnaes 2007-10-13 12:11PM

Well, in the pictures below I guess I can see where my money goes at the moment. We still hope to be able to finally move into the house in December. The inside is basically finished and just needs painting. The current jobs are building a covered terrace and making a 4x4 meters cover for our generator which I will have to order in Manila in two weeks time. The generator will be needed since the area sometimes suffers brown-outs that can last for up to 4-5 days during the typhoon season.

Blog ImageBlog ImageBlog ImageBlog ImageBlog ImageBlog ImageBlog ImageBlog ImageBlog ImageBlog ImageBlog ImageBlog ImageBlog ImageBlog ImageAs you can see there is still a lot of work that has to be done but we just have to continue to the very end. The deteriorating Dollar is also fast becoming a factor but there is not a lot we can do about that. When the house and terrace is finished the painting starts and that is also going to become a bit expensive. After that the wall around the lot needs to be finished and painted too (I hate grey concrete!).

When the Dollar exchange rate starts to pick up again (sometime), we can start on the guest house and the maids quarters (some will probably think this is too much). In the end I will probably end up having spent about 9 million Peso on the whole thing which has to be compared to what I would be able to get back in Denmark for the same amount (approximately 1.1 Million DKK) so I still believe its worth it, not to mention that we will have no debt whatsoever. The only cost will be electricity, phone, cable tv and broadband connection (we have our own water wells with pumps etc.).

I just look forward to being able to spend time there with my family.

Project House

Project HousePosted by Jan H. Oersnaes 2007-05-11 03:08PM

Since I have been asked so many times now I have attached a series of pictures below that gives a short history of the house project which we started in the autum of 2005. We expect that we can move in sometime in October or maybe a little later. The project will however not be finished since we still need to build a guest house, a maids house and hopefully a swimming pool so I guess that I pretty musch know what my salary is going to be spent on the next year or so.

There will be a lot of finishing to be done and eventually painting everything. I hate the grey color of concrete!!
